No Trump hug, but security check for Pakistan PM Abbasi at US airport, With Video

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi underwent a security check like any normal passenger at a US airport, footage obtained by television and YouTube channels shows.

Grainy visuals (see below) showed Abbasi walking with a coat on one arm, and pulling his suitcase with his other hand.

"PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi faces humiliation at American Airport," proclaimed the headline of a video posted by Capital TV Live on YouTube, although the account was unverified. But similar footage was carried by other channels.

A Times of India report published Tuesday evening said the treatment given to Pakistan's prime minister was "an 'indignity' that has enraged the Pakistani media amid reports that the Trump administration is considering imposing visa bans and other sanctions on individuals in the Pakistani government."

Ties between the US and Pakistan have deteriorated sharply, especially Donald Trump's election to the White House.

Relations have frayed over Islamabad's suspected support for Islamist militants waging war in Afghanistan, something Pakistani officials deny.

A freeze on security aid to Pakistan, announced by the Trump administration early this year, was incorporated in a US spending bill.

The US has also been concerned about Pakistan's development of new nuclear weapons systems, including small tactical nuclear weapons, and has been trying to persuade it to make a unilateral declaration of "restraint".
